There are various reasons why retired individuals are choosing to return to the world of work. In some cases, people are returning to work due to the need to earn money and strengthen their financial situation. Additionally, retirement can be a big change in lifestyle and can leave some people feeling like they’ve lost their sense of purpose and routine, this can make returning to work an attractive endeavour.

Recent research from the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) suggests firms are much less open to hiring older workers than they are to bringing in younger people (BBC,2023). This is leading to biases and discrimination within recruitment processes, and also means that there’s often a lack of representation, and therefore lack of inclusivity, for older employees once they do join an organisation.
