With an objective of creating inclusion and making all employees feel welcome, this focused ally training will explore intersectionality, what it means to have “passing” identities, biases and barriers that the LGBTQIA+ community faces, lived realities, and what it means to be an ally. Participants of this live,  awareness trainimg will receive an incredibly unique opportunity to learn about the historical context and become equipped with the necessary skills in becoming an ally. 

Training outline & objectives

Introduction to LGBTQIA+

  • Gain a solidified understanding of LGBTQIA+, the history behind the term, and what “passing” identities
    means to gain the necessary context in becoming an effective ally. 
  • Understand what intersectionality is through an introduction to the term, examples of lived experiences,
    and the numerous contributing factors towards a diversity of identities. 

Barriers & bias

  • Understand potential reasons for why LGBTQIA+ employees may not be “out” at work and the
    detrimental impact of a lack of support within the workplace.
  • Delve into the structural and cultural aspects of organizations that may hinder LGBTQIA+ progress,
    including stereotypes, wage gaps, and unconscious biases through lived realities. 

The allyship journey

  • Explore strategies that organizations can implement to promote LGBTQIA+ support and allyship
    including the mindset shifts, commitment, and actionable items. 
  • Discuss the power of allyship, the utilization of pronouns, and gain skills in acknowledging previous
    mistakes and behaviours.
